Adelina & Agron’s Intimate Wedding

Friday, July 1st, 2011

Inseparable since their first date, with a song in her heart from the very beginning, Adelina knew Agron was the one.

“I still remember on our first date, we sat in his car by a waterfront park in New Jersey. He put a song on that I never expected he would listen to, and started singing it to me. It’s hard to explain, but the feeling was unbelievable, and he still makes my heart flutter whenever he sings. A few days later, he called me to ask my favorite number – I told him 3. Later that day, he showed up at my apartment with three beautiful red roses (one of which I still have in a frame). It was those kinds of gestures, on top of him being the funniest and most caring person I have ever met, that made me fall in love with him quicker than I could have ever imagined. I knew very quickly that this was the man that I would spend the rest of my life with.”

For Adelina’s birthday in May, she and Agron spent the night at Caesar’s Palace in Atlantic City. They planned to have their families officially meet for the very first time at home the next day at her birthday dinner…which turned into a completely different kind of celebration!

“I remember waking up around 7 or 8am the next morning (May 15th), and seeing him standing by the window looking out, pacing back and forth in the room, already all dressed up. He said he was just awake and ready to go out and get some breakfast. So I got ready, to go. However, instead, he brought a blanket with him, and set up a breakfast picnic for us on the beach where there was nobody else there because it was so early. After breakfast, Agron said we should go take a walk by the beach, and next thing I know, as our feet are in the water, says how much he loves me and that he wants to “make it permanent” and gets down on one knee. I later found out he had a full speech he prepared to tell me, but in that moment, he just wanted to make it permanent. I loved it. The proposal was us, and we laughed, and hugged, and kissed, and just realized we were about to begin one amazing journey. That night, we met both of our families, and on top of it being a celebration dinner, it also became our engagement party — I can still remember that whole day by each second.”

Adelina and Agron knew they wanted an intimate spring wedding on a Saturday night. They chose April 30 as the big day, and together, with the help of their families, everything fell into place!

“The whole vision was simple intimate elegance. All we wanted was whoever was there to have an amazing time, and for us to have the most amazing celebration. The first place we visited was the Watermill. They had a new renovated room called the Carnegie room. The second we saw it, I was in tears. Without knowing any additional details, I knew this was the place. The room had white, gold and silver accents, wood floors, and the fancy chairs I always wanted without chair covers. It was perfect and I couldn’t see us being anywhere else but there. We booked it on the spot. Most of our vendors were the first ones we met with. First dress, first photographer, first florist, first videographer, etc. It made everything very easy.

Traditionally from my side of the family as well as Agron’s, having a ceremony is not something that was normally done. We knew before we even got engaged that we wanted to have a ceremony and to write our own vows. The rest of the decisions were made between the simple elegance vision and also our budget. Of course I got carried away with little details here and there, but in the end it all worked together and we couldn’t be more happier with how our day turned out.“

With the when, where, who and how taken care of, Adelina could focus on the best part – her wedding day look! All she knew was that her wedding gown had to have straps and that she felt her most beautiful, sophisticated self wearing it. So, the fall before her wedding, she went shopping with her sister and mother-in-law and fell in love…with the very fist dress she tried on!

“I knew I wanted to feel sophisticated, like myself, and a bit sexy also. The second I tried on this dress, it had it all – and it helped that I felt 10 pounds lighter wearing it! The dress then influenced the rest of my decisions about how I would look. I knew I wanted a soft updo so that I wouldn’t cover the straps, a tiara wasn’t for me, so I knew some kind of headband would probably be best. When I purchased my dress, I tried on a very detailed veil with it. That made up the whole look – I screamed from excitement and although it was the wrong store, I still said “Yes to the dress!” over and over again!”

Thanks to a referral from another bride, Adelina knew exactly where she wanted to go for her bridal accessories – Bridal Styles Boutique!

“The second I walked in, I felt like I was in bridal heaven. I didn’t know what to expect, but I was completely blown away by the beauty of the store and all the accessories. My dress had some pearl detailing in it, so I knew that I wanted pearl plus bling in one. The headpiece I ended choosing had pearl detailing with Swarovski crystals that looked like clusters of flowers similar to the detailing on my dress. After I put the piece in, along with the most gorgeous matching earrings, and a veil to top it off, I looked at myself in the mirror, and was overcome with emotion. This was the bride that I myself imagined to be, and it wasn’t until that moment that it hit me this is what I’m going to look like on my wedding day.”

The last detail of her wedding day look was just as important as her first – shoes!

“Purple was our color and I never saw myself as wearing white shoes, I wanted something with a little pop, and the shoes were perfect – purple with a little bow in the front to add some more femininity. “

From beginning to end, every moment of Adelina and Agron’s wedding day was magic.

“It felt like a dream. That’s the best way to describe it. To this day, it still feels like we’re living in the dream. On the morning of, my mom and I woke up early and decided to go get bagels and orange juice for everyone that would be around that morning getting ready. It was as if it was just another Saturday, that’s how calm I was. Shortly after, the make-up artist and hair stylist came and that’s where it all started. Soon after, the photographers and videographers came, and that’s when I realized wow, this is all actually happening. I was still as calm as can be, and kept asking to know what Agron was up to only a few doors down from our room at the Marriott Islandia. I remember specific moments – my nieces getting their make-up done and feeling so excited that they got sparkly pink eyeshadow, my mom looking the most beautiful I can remember, and my sister laughing and looking astonishing by my side. It all felt too good to be true.”

As the time to exchange vows with Agron approached, Adelina began to feel just a little bit of the nervous excitement wedding days are famous for.

“Before I knew it, the time was approaching for me to get my dress on and have our first reveal as bride and groom. That’s when I started getting the butterflies. I couldn’t wait to get it on and show him what I looked like. I can’t explain the happiness I felt that day, here I was, after months of planning, about to show my husband to be what I looked like. I approached the staircase leading to him, and below him at the bottom of the staircase were both of our immediate family members smiling, whistling, and clapping. I approached him, touched him on the shoulder and said ‘well what do I do now?’ He took my hand, closed his eyes, kissed it, and then turned to look at me. He was completely taken back, started crying, and we just hugged for a few minutes. This was it, I was his bride, he was my groom and this was our moment. He couldn’t’ stop complimenting me and couldn’t believe how I looked. I couldn’t believe how handsome he was. He always is, but this was so much more different than I have ever seen him. We then hopped into the limo with his best man (brother), my maid of honor (sister) and my two nieces (flower girls). We went to Northport Harbor to take our pictures. We had such a blast, it was so intimate and relaxing. We spent a few hours there, it was such a gorgeous day too – sunny and just the perfect amount of breeze. After our pictures, we headed back to the reception hall, took a few more family pictures (I’ve never seen any of our families looking more happy and beautiful than that day!).”

Before either of them knew it, the photo shoot was over, and Adelina found herself standing with her parents at the top of the aisle.

“The violinist was there (Marie Stack from MAS Music), I heard her violin playing “Heaven” by DJ Sammy. I knew it was time for my dad and mom to walk me down the aisle. The doors opened, and filling that gorgeous room were the 50 people that meant the world to us, smiling. At the end of the aisle, I saw the man that captured my heart. We were both in tears, and I felt as if I was up on a cloud with my parents supporting me as I made the best decision of my life. As we said our vows, my heart blossomed with every word he spoke, and was amazed that I had found someone to love me as much as he does and will forever. It was so hard to wait for our first kiss that we ended up kissing three times throughout the ceremony! “

Finally, they were officially wed, and it was time to celebrate!

“We walked into our reception room for a sneak peek of it, and there it was my vision fulfilled – intimate, elegant, and soon to be filled with 50 people looking to have an amazing party! We didn’t get off the dance floor for more than 5 minutes – we danced traditional Albanian music, reggaeton, Balkan, Greek, and anything else thrown in. I still remember my dance with my dad and seeing such happiness in his face, and the same with my dance with my brother and sister. It still all felt like a dream. Next thing we knew, we were smushing cake in each other’s faces, and having our last dance. We loved it all. In that day, all the small details we planned went away and all we cared about is seeing everyone on the dance floor celebrating with us. After all, that’s what it’s about isn’t it?”

After such an incredible day, Adelina and Agron have so many cherished memories it was hard figure out which was their favorite.

“His reaction to me was just unbelievable. I wish I could relive that moment each and every single day. The second most memorable (I can’t just choose one!) was when we decided to stop in the middle of our reception, take each other by the hand, and just look around at everyone there. We saw people laughing, smiling, dancing, toasting. It was amazing. Here we were, at our wedding, watching all these people celebrating our day. It really was an amazing feeling. For my husband, his most memorable moment was the first reveal and in his own words, ‘especially the way you looked when I turned around to look at you’ and also reading our wedding vows to each other.”

A few months after the wedding, these happy newlyweds have some advice for other couples planning their own wonderful weddings.

Adelaina: “Enjoy the day – in whichever way you need to, whether it’s dancing for 4 hours straight, or doing a fun dance like we did, do what will at the end of the night let you say ‘wow, that was the best night of our life!’ Take a moment to take a look at everything, to take it all in. It goes by so fast that a moment to digest it all is so important. And of course, don’t forget what the day is all about. It’s not the flowers, the cake, the place cards…it’s the everlasting promise you are making between each other. “

Agron: “Make sure that there’s someone else on your wedding day to worry about things, you should remain as calm as possible and truly enjoy the day.”

Anna & Pietro’s Westmount Country Club Wedding

Tuesday, March 29th, 2011

April 16, 2008 is a day that both Anna and her new husband Pietro will always remember. It was when everything changed!

They had known each other through mutual friends, but it was while at a friend’s barbeque they found themselves sitting together talking about life when Pietro asked Anna out to dinner.

The rest, as they say, is history!

Two years later in February, Anna was headed to the gym. Meanwhile, Pietro had arrived at their home from work to get everything set for the special night in which he planned to propose.

However, Anna found herself stuck in traffic, missed her gym class, and headed home. “I walked into a kitchen and saw a bouquet of beautiful red roses. I thought they were for our second year anniversary but then he pulled a little black box and said ‘I have something else for you!’”

When she opened the box, for a moment Anna was too shocked and excited to speak! But by the time Pietro asked for her hand, she recovered enough to say ‘yes.’

Since they wanted to start a family right away, Anna and Pietro decided to wed by the end of the year, choosing November 13, 2010 for their date.

As a bridal coordinator with her own wedding planning and coordinating company, A Touch Of Posh, Anna had taken care of many brides and their weddings! So she knew exactly what she wanted to do and the top vendors to choose. It wasn’t long before she and Pietro had chosen Sacred Heart of Jesus in Bayside and Westmount Country Club for their ceremony and reception, along with all the professionals that would help make their dream wedding come true.

Next on her list were her wedding dress and bridesmaid dresses!

“I always wanted to have a big, beautiful wedding. I knew exactly what dress I was going wear and the dresses I envisioned my brides in. My dress was by Maggie Sottero ‘Sabelle’ custom encrusted with Swarovski crystals, and my bridesmaids wore dresses by Bill Levkoff. My favorite color is Burgundy/wine, which is prefect for Fall, so it became the color theme of my wedding.”

Bridal gown chosen, Anna began to search for her bridal accessories. “I wanted to get a unique headpiece and vintage looking accessories, but couldn’t find the one I LOVED, until a friend suggested that I go to Bridal Styles Boutique. Once there, I knew it was the place to find one of a kind headpieces and accessories. There were so many headpieces my eyes were all over the store. With all that amazing stuff I was able to find a headpiece I LOVED and vintage style accessories – just what I was looking for. My accessories made me look different, unique! I couldn’t wait to wear them!”

To Anna and Pietro, the sunny skies and 65 degree weather that greeted them and their 300 guests on their wedding day was just icing on the cake. It meant so much to “celebrate the beginning of our lives together with friends and family – it was very special to us! We put our hearts into making the wedding of our dreams!”

Even among all those great memories, for Anna and Pietro some will always remain vivid. “Walking down the aisle and seeing the man I love standing by the aisle waiting to spend the rest of his life with me was the most memorable part of my wedding. The first dance was my husbands, besides the surprise grooms cake. I got him a 3D deer cake since he’s a big hunter!”

Now newlyweds, Anna and Pietro have the following advice for engaged couples planning their weddings:

“Have the wedding of your dreams! Plan it the way you always envisioned it to be, because it is the most memorable day of your life! There are so many great vendors that would work with you and your budget, just remember to choose them carefully. We had the best experience with all the vendors we chose! It is very important to work with professional people who care about your day! Remember it’s your big day and you should be treated like a princess, have fun planning your wedding and the most important don’t get too stressed out! Enjoy every minute of your wedding day, because it goes too quick! Hire a wedding coordinator to do all the work for you the day of your wedding so you and your bridal party can enjoy the best day of your life!”

Yedenny & Kevin- Valentine’s Day Wedding

Monday, February 14th, 2011

While gathered with their family and friends on Christmas Eve 2008, Kevin asked Yedenny to choose any gift under the tree to open. When she couldn’t decide, he selected one, which she opened to reveal a white box. Within that was another box, sealed with tape. Inside that was yet another small white box that held a little black jewelry box, which Kevin gently took from her hand. Falling to one knee, he proposed. “My heart was racing, my knees were shaking, I was speechless, I was very happy and very surprised. It was a great moment in my life!”

Since their anniversary was February 1, Yedenny and Kevin chose Valentine’s Day 2010 for their wedding date, perfect for the color to which she was drawn! “I decided on the color red, because to me it means passion, love, romance, and it was a winter wedding.” Red and white wove an elegant Valentine’s Day thread throughout their wedding day, including a dusting of rose petals on the cake and MIKASA crystal heart jewelry box favors.

To go with her tailor-made wedding gown, Yedenny began searching for one-of-a-kind bridal accessories. “I wanted a headpiece that was different, elegant, unique. I went to many boutiques and everything seemed cheap. After searching on line, I found Bridal Styles Boutique and was mesmerized by the collection. I immediately knew I had found THE PLACE for my accessories. I drove to the store and fell in love with the place, its selection and the customer service. The owner was very, very helpful and very friendly. He helped me select the perfect accessories. I love my headpiece!”

By the time their wedding day drew near, everything was in place. Their local church, Blessed Sacrament, and Terrace on The Park were booked. All their vendors, from Metro Floral Decorators and US Open Limousines to make-up artist Lilly Rivera (from My Fair Wedding with David Tutera) and photographers Pinilla Studio were scheduled. The only thing that threatened not to cooperate was the weather.

“Two weeks before the wedding, I was very worried because around that time we had several snow storms and I was worried about the weather on my wedding day, but God was on our side and the day of my wedding was not as cold for that time of the year. It was bright and clear and most of the snow had melted.”

After a great night’s sleep at her mom’s, Yedenny awoke on her wedding day ready and rested. “I must say, that I did not feel nervous, or worried or stressed…It was one of the best and most calmed days I had ever felt. I felt as if nothing could stress me out on that day. I was positive, I felt a very good energy from everyone around me. I was very happy. My mom was super excited. Since I am her only child, she would be the one walking me down the isle and giving me away. If anything she was the nervous one. My bridesmaid and maid of honor all met at my moms place, where we all got dressed. My husband was at his place with his family. We could not wait to get to the church! It was a very special day.”

Their reception at Terrace on The Park was the celebration they hoped it would be and more. “The view of the city from the Terrace is amazing! The service was amazing and our banquet manager and the rest of the staff did an incredible job…..I danced the whole night, I did not stop, I made sure that I enjoyed my wedding all the way. Once I got all the professional pictures out of the way, my husband and I were a party machine. It makes no sense to spend so much money on a wedding and then stay sitting the whole night, I didn’t care about make-up or hair, I wanted to party!”

Fondest memories for the bride and groom?

Yedenny will always remember “getting married in church, having my mom walk me down the aisle, and saying ‘I do.’ Looking into my husband’s eyes, knowing he is the man I want to spend the rest of my life with was amazing.”

Kevin feels the same way about their wedding day, but being with everyone they loved is a memory he cherishes. “I know the typical answer would be when I first saw my wife walking down the aisle, or the moment we said ‘I do’…but I have always known how beautiful my wife is, and I had known for a long time that I wanted to say ‘I do’! The most memorable part of my wedding was the PARTYING! I loved what the partying represented. I loved the fact that all of our family and friends were together, happy, and celebrating our special day. A party I know we will remember forever!”

What advice do Yedenny and Kevin have for couples planning their own weddings?

Yedenny: “Enjoy the planning process! This is an experience that when you think about it should bring back good memories, not the other way around. Also, do it the way you like – it’s your day. I didn’t follow a book, or all the traditions, it’s all about you and your fiance, so don’t let people talk you out of what you really like, just because they don’t agree with it. You are the one getting married, not them! Also get your fiance involved, everything I did I made sure that my husband also liked, because I felt that it wasn’t only my wedding, it was ours and he should have a say in it too. Also I hired a wedding planner for the day of the wedding only and that was a great thing to do. That way, everyone, family and friends, can enjoy the wedding. No one has to be in charge, running around, and then miss out on the wedding. I hired a wedding planner only for that day because I’m a person that I like to be involved in everything, but for the day of the wedding, I let others do the work…My only task was to be happy!”

Kevin: “My advice to a bride-to-be would be not to cut corners. If you’re planning to have a big wedding, have it! That one day should be everything you expect and nothing less! Even though your fiancé may moan and groan during the planning process, he will want to make you happy and eventually give in to all your requests!”

Nerejda and Filgen

Tuesday, January 11th, 2011

The moment Nerejda and Filgen spotted each other in Calculus class, they knew it would be hard to concentrate on numbers! Filgen was so cute that Nerejda couldn’t resist dishing about him with her good friend. So, thinking no one (except her friend) would understand her if she spoke in Albanian, Nerejda told her about the cute guy (Filgen) sitting nearby. Throughout class, Nerejda would catch Filgen smiling at her, and of course each time she’d comment to her friend about how handsome she thought he was.

It wasn’t until the next Calculus class when Filgen greeted her in Albanian that Nerejda realized he had heard AND understood every word! “I was very embarrassed, but continued to talk to him and ever since then we have been inseparable. I knew he was the one ever since we started speaking to each other. After I got to know him more I found out what a kind, loving, and family oriented person he was.”

In 2006, when Nerejda’s birthday arrived, Filgen proposed! She was thrilled to be able to say yes to the man she knew would be her partner for life and share the moment with both their families. “Because our families are so important to us and so close he decided to propose to me on a day when both of our families were together.“

Since Nerejda was in Law School and Filgen in the process of completing his master’s degree, they decided theirs would be a long engagement. Setting a wedding date of September 19, 2010 gave them plenty of time to plan the details while finishing school.

Dreaming of an old Hollywood-inspired wedding, Nerejda incorporated glamour and a little stardust into every detail. Complete with a costume change, with one wedding gown for her ceremony and another for the reception (both by Lazaro), Nerejda planned to feel and look like a star!

“The first dress that I wore during the ceremony was hand embroidered with crystals and beads and weighed about 15 pounds. I absolutely was in love with the dress the minute I tried it on. It was the first dress I tried on. The second was also hand embroidered, but smaller and easier to dance in, and I changed into it halfway through the reception. For my accessories, I did a lot of research and finally decided on Bridal Styles Boutique. Even though I lived in Boston, I convinced my fiancé that there was no place in Boston like Bridal Styles and we had to go there for my crown. The first crown that I was shown at Bridal Styles was the one I chose. It was beyond what I had envisioned and I completely fell in love with it.”

To top her wedding look off, Nerejda received a very special gift. “My grandmother gave me this beautiful ruby ring surrounded by diamonds that my grandfather had given her on their wedding day. It was very wonderful gesture and so very emotional for me.”

On her wedding day, Nerejda was filled with nerves and emotion, but had the perfect solution for feeling centered in place. “The morning of our wedding everyone (including my bridal party) woke up at 5 in the morning and had breakfast and joked around… that was so important because it helped calm my nerves. Plus, it was so beautiful, all of us sitting together having breakfast and talking about how wonderful this day would be. “

Nerejda and Filgen planned to start their wedding day by honoring Albanian tradition. “The tradition is that Filgen and his whole family come to my house and request me from my family. I had not expected that to be so emotional for me. When Filgen came and my brother and uncle walked me outside of the house to give me away to Filgen it finally hit me that this was my wedding day. I had planned it for so long, and when it finally came I had not thought about how emotional that day would be for me. “

Following the Albanian wedding ceremony, Nerejda, Filgen, their families, and wedding party along with their wedding photographer, Faith Dugan, headed to the Elms Mansion for pictures. “The Elms is beautiful, glamorous and Old Hollywood, just like I wanted. The pictures at the mansion were beautiful!”

After which they were off to St. Spyridon. “The church ceremony was very lovely. My favorite part was when my father gave me away and he and Filgen hugged and kissed!”

On cloud nine, everyone headed to Belle Mer for the reception. “When we were introduced as Mr. and Mrs. Prifti, it was so much fun and so exciting to see all our loved ones around us celebrating our love. The reception was so much fun and both of our families enjoyed the night. Everyone danced the night away and Filgen and I could not be moved from the dance floor. It was such a beautiful night for us both.”

Though the day was filled with special, wonderful moments, the memory that shines brightest for Nerejda is the moment she first saw Filgen. “He was so happy and his eyes were sparkling and I knew that our love would last forever.”

A few months after their wedding, Nerejda and Filgen have some sage advice for brides and grooms planning their weddings!

Nerejda: “Do not stress out, everything will work out in the end. Remember that something will always not go according to plan, so do not let that get you down because no one really knows what the plan was. Have fun and enjoy your day because it goes by too quickly. “

Filgen: “Enjoy every moment of the wedding, you have been planning it for so long so do not waste even a second because it’s the most wonderful day of your life. “

Irena could not have said it better when she shared her advice to couples planning their weddings: “Just do what feels right.”

Everything from the moment she met her now husband, Igor, to the wedding they planned in eight (!) days seems defined by those words.

Up until she met Igor through his sister, Irena had never dated a man she felt completely comfortable with. “People always say that relationships require compromise but you don’t need to compromise when it’s right.”

The moment Igor proposed, they knew an intimate wedding was for them, but “we had pressures from family to have a traditional wedding. That didn’t feel right to us, so we decided to keep all of our planning a secret until a few days before our wedding date.” So, at the end of their six month engagement, Irena and Igor organized their wedding in eight days!

It was important to Irena and Igor that they chose wedding day looks reflecting their personal style. Irena wore a dress by Australian designer Stella Filainte. “The dress was not a bridal gown but an off the rack piece from the store and my headpiece was from Bridal Styles and really finished my look. Finally, my shoes were Badgley Mischka.” Igor sported a designer suit by Robert James. “We were lucky enough to have the designer himself put the look together!”

On a bright November day, Irena and Igor headed to Staten Island for their ceremony, followed by a reception at the River Café in Brooklyn. They had the wedding of their dreams. “It was the ideal version of what I imagined it could be. It felt great to be able to share this day with the people closest to us and not get bogged down with minutiae and other obligations. The most important part was the great memories we captured for our lifetimes through the amazing photographs taken by Bryan Hochman and his partner, Rich.”
