Monica and Felix’s Glamorous, Gorgeous Wedding

Monday, December 10th, 2012

Though our stunning bride, Monica, had a fabulous wedding, the very best part of the celebration was the magic between her and her new husband, Felix.

The two are truly a match made in the stars, who met with a little help from Monica’s dear friend:

“My good friend Jacqueline decided to pitch me the idea of meeting this guy ‘Felix’ she thought was perfect for me. I was extremely hesitant and frankly not interested in dating at the time so I told her NO WAY; politely of course! A few weeks later I woke up with an email from Jacqueline with a photo of Felix and a text message from her “Call me when you get this.” Apparently I came to find out Jackie sent Felix my photo and he thought I was pretty and to expect his call. What I didn’t know was she had told him prior to me receiving his photo that I saw his photo and ‘thought he was cute’ and ‘THAT I WAS EXPECTING HIS CALL!’ She decided to tell a little white lie and play match maker which I am extremely grateful for now. “

Turns out, Jacqueline was right! Monica and Felix were made for each other, and both knew it on their very first date:

“When Felix finally called to ask me out on a date I was really excited and nervous. We spoke on the phone and made plans for a few days later. Turns out when I mentioned him to my family the families knew each other. We even lived in the same gated community and never met before!

We made plans to go ice skating in Bryant Park in NYC. Felix made sure to tell me to wear something ‘comfortable.’ I had never really gone on a blind date before so I was a bit nervous. I called my friend Jacqueline and we decided to go shopping for the ‘perfect’ outfit. I spent all day putting something together and my perfect interpretation of ‘comfort’ was 6 inch Louboutins! Hey, a girl has to make a good impression!”

“Felix picked me up and we went to Bryant Park. The rink was packed and I clearly wasn’t interested in taking off my shoes to put on some skates so we opted to go eat instead. Since the weather was brisk yet nice, he decided we should walk  – with no pity for my poor feet in those sky high boots. I played it cool and said I was comfortable, he took me by my hand and we were off. Everything felt really natural.

On the way home he was telling me ‘You’re going to be ‘my wife’.’ I thought it was a little weird but, loved the attention.  When we arrived to my home he came around and opened the car door and walked me to the door and kissed me on the cheek. He was really a gentleman and that’s when I knew I fell in love.”

From that moment on, the days flew and, before Monica and Felix knew it, six months had gone by and Monica’s birthday was on the horizon. As they planned a trip to Cabo San Lucas to celebrate, little did Monica know that Felix had a surprise up his sleeve!

“After our first date in December, everything kind of flowed naturally. We were really inseparable and we spent time together almost everyday. My birthday was coming up in June we were together 6 months at this point. Felix decided to plan a trip to Cabo San Lucas Mexico to celebrate. We went on this trip with another couple we were friends with. Everything was really nice we had a really great time. One of the nights the boys decided to plan a dinner on the beach. I didn’t think anything of it I thought they were trying to be cute and romantic.

We came down to the beach that evening and we had a beautiful candle light dinner prepared for four. I wouldn’t have imagined a proposal because Felix was laughing, making jokes and wasn’t nervous at all. When it was time to order dessert, the waiters came with the menu. Everyone got really quiet. I opened the menu, and there it was inside: ‘Monica will you marry me?’ I was in shock! I even asked if ‘this is a joke?! Am I being punked??’ It was really romantic and I am glad our friends were there to capture the moment for us.”

Monica and Felix knew they didn’t want to wait too long, and, since a Fall wedding seemed perfect, decided to set a date for September 2012. With a year to plan, Monica got started right away, with the help of Felix, family and all the brides she came in contact with every day:

“The planning process started almost immediately and turned out to be a full time job. My fiancé left it all to me to decide; yet he had input on everything (LOL). I did the majority of the research myself but my close friends and family gave their input. I’m very fortunate to have a big support system and having Monica’s Bridal as a resource to ask other brides their feedback and suggestions. I am also very grateful to have my aunt and uncle in this line of work as well; Bridal Styles gave me the opportunity to get input from even more brides. I knew I wanted a unique and custom wedding so most of the aspects of my big day were customized by myself or custom ordered.”

Before long, the details of Monica and Felix’s dream wedding began to fall into place:

“I always dreamed of my wedding day especially since I have been surrounded by brides from an early age. I am a third generation bridal designer in my family. I was waiting for this Cinderella moment since I was very young. I knew it had to be perfect so I set off to find the most perfect venue. Felix and I came across the Crystal Plaza and fell in love with the location and the people. I always wanted an outdoor ceremony and their garden is just so beautiful. Everyone was so accommodating and helpful and really made me feel like I made the perfect choice. Any and every request was given one answer: ‘no problem.’ It really made me at ease when everyone was on my side to make my day perfect.”

Custom gowns by Monica’s Bridal

From bridesmaids dresses and table linens to escort cards, centerpieces and her splendid, glittering Loubotins, Monica created many custom details to accent the day and make it their own:

“I tried to customize as many things as possible, and the theme was definitely ‘Swarovski,’ starting with the dresses and headpieces. My bridesmaids were like brides themselves. Their gowns were all custom-designed, and my maids of honors were in the same style gowns as the rest of the girls but each had their unique accents. My girls were a representation of me and I wanted them to feel special as well.

For our venue, I ordered custom-cut mirror tabletops to accent the long communal tables. I custom-designed my wedding cake, which Crystal Plaza baked into a reality.  I even made custom linen for the bride and groom table which was a beautiful corded French lace covered in crystals. The linen looked like it could double as an actual bridal skirt! I made a custom moneybox to match, covered with the embroidered lace and then encrusted with Swarovski rhinestones.”

“My florist and I collaborated on everything. She was so wonderful and amazing and had me play a big role in the floral designs. This was one of my favorite aspects of planning. I told Irina what I envisioned and we custom designed all the centerpieces together and everything was designed around the floral bases. I knew I wanted different styles for the centerpieces in the room to give diversity and dept. Irina took my ideas and created them into beautiful floral works of art.The whole room was glowing.

For my escort cards, I wanted to be different so I thought of the idea of having an escort card tree. It was definitely a wow factor and filled up the room. The gazebo outside was decorated to complement the garden. I wanted it to have touches of rhinestones to match the theme. There was a garden of flowers covering the entire gazebo with cascading orchids, which looked like it came out of a fairytale. The runner was also custom created which was encrusted with silver glitter to have a touch of shine.

I tried to custom make a lot of aspects so it would be unique and one of a kind. I feel this is how I made it a true representation of my taste. Overall the room was so shiny and glowing Swarovski themselves would be proud! It was perfect!”

With her wedding details coming together, Monica focused on her bridal style. As a bridal designer, owner of a bridal salon, and member of a wedding family, figuring out what she wanted was tricky…especially since she wanted two separate looks:

“It’s hard to say that I ‘knew’ what I wanted to wear since I was a little girl, because I didn’t. Monica’s Bridal caters to so many brides and I see so many beautiful dresses that it was actually one of the more difficult parts of planning. I design gowns for brides all the time, and now it was my turn to make my own dress. I always dreamed about a Cinderella wedding, but my choice of gown was never clear to me. I was definitely intimidated because I had to live up to so many expectations. Everyone was dying to see what ‘Monica’ of Monica’s Bridal would wear. I knew I had to be different and wear a dress that I’d never seen done before.I knew it had to be custom designed and made to achieve this. I also wanted multiple dress changes because I didn’t want to put too many different details into one gown for fear of making it not cohesive and tacky.”

Bridal Styles Bride Monica , Photo - Grey Line Photo

For my first gown, which I would wear for my portraits and down the aisle, I wanted something grand, whimsical and soft yet not too flashy or shiny. I decided on a lace illusion corset with fine hand beading, pearls, and small rosettes. Everything was hand beaded and every flower was hand made. For the skirt, I knew I wanted tulle since it was so airy and photographs beautifully. To get the wow factor, the dress needed to be ENORMOUS, literally! I choose layered tulle for my skirt and created a 5 yard train to follow from behind. If I was going to make an entrance, just the size of this gown would keep jaws dropping. It was a look of royalty. I felt like a princess marrying my prince. ”

“My second dress, which was my party dress, had to ‘outshine’ the first. Since I decided on minimal beading with the first gown the second one had to be shiner than anything ever seen before. I knew that a natural waist ball gown style suited my body, but it had to be simple shape if there would be lots of beading and details in the fabric. Thus, the idea was born. I started beading the dress with Swarovski crystals in a fade design. It was condensed at the top and faded to nothing on the skirt. I really had my hands full, because the beading alone took 9 months, 8 hrs a day! Over 100,000 Swarovski rhinestones went into this masterpiece. Once finished, this dress was really a work of art.”

Next, Monica visited Bridal Styles to find the perfect accessories to add just the right touch to her wedding day look:

“Once my dresses were completed, I headed to my favorite people at Bridal Styles. This was going to be a job for the pros and I knew I had to have not one but two headpieces for my two dresses. Luckily, I came to the right place! My aunt and uncle Edward and Elaine treated me like princess. Since my gowns were both custom created, we all knew my headpieces would be as well. I tried on about a million and they patiently went through different styles for weeks until I finally made up my mind. The biggest problem was I was unsure about my hairstyle and once Lisa Mitchell and I decided to do my hair in two hairstyles down for the reception and up for the ceremony we knew what we were working with.”

“The first piece I chose was a three quarter rosette and vine zirconia piece with small rosettes details. It had the perfect amount of shine for my ceremony dress, since the dress was subtle with beading. For the second piece, I fell in love with the idea of having big rosettes in my hair. My uncle sent me home and told me he would create something magical and one of a kind. I slept at ease until I finally got to see his beautiful creation about 2 weeks before my big day. He made me a one of a kind Swarovski gardenia and even better, I would be the first bride to showcase this stunner!  Not to mention my 6 yard long cathedral veil encrusted with Swarovski crystals, created by Bridal Styles.”

“So, overall I had to go big or go home. I had two dresses in line, two headpieces, and two hairstyles! Since I had so much going on with my headpieces and dresses I opted for small diamond studs and no other jewelry to keep it classy. When it came to deciding my makeup I knew it had to be simple. I don’t wear much on a daily basis and I found the perfect person Lorraine to do my bridal makeup exactly the way I wanted it. I wanted to look like a better version of myself and that’s exactly what she delivered.”

Finally, their wedding weekend arrived, along with calls for a big late summer storm! However, despite Mother Nature’s fickle behavior on September 12, 2012, Monica and Felix’s wedding day was everything they’d imagined it to be and more:

“My wedding day started the night before when I packed up some of my clothes and went to my parents’ home to stay there as my last night as a single woman. I knew it would be more special to stay separate.

The night before was gloomy and foggy and I was in a panic, since my wedding ceremony was scheduled to be outside. I searched every weather channel and internet weather site in hopes that someone would tell me it wouldn’t rain, but a tornado was predicted to pass. Some call it luck when it rains on your wedding day, but I was very disappointed. I MEAN C’ MON, A TORNADO? OUT OF ALL DAYS!!”

“The morning of was cloudy and dark, very soon it was pouring cats and dogs and my anxiety rose. By the time I was done with hair, makeup, and putting my dress on, the sun had come out. The day would be perfect after all. Felix and I hopped into our Rolls Royce Phantom and went to Central Park for photos. I really felt like a queen. Everywhere we went people were clapping for us. It was definitely an experience.

“We continued taking photos at our venue. Before I knew it, it was time for me to hide in the bridal suite once guests started to arrive. While up in the bridal suite I had my hair change and makeup fixed up before it was time to say ‘I DO.’

Once my Rabbi showed up, he came to the bridal suite and was drenched. There were no windows in the suite, so I couldn’t see outside. I began to panic because of the rain and he assured me all would be okay. Crystal Plaza worked quickly to try to bring flowers inside to have the ceremony proceed because of the rain. My Chuppa was set up outside and I was so head strong about having an outside ceremony I ignored the weather and thought it would stop in time. Whatever flowers they were able to bring were brought upstairs and the florist worked quickly to create a setup. We didn’t want to take down the outside setup because we knew it would stop eventually and we would at least take pictures next to our magical gazebo covered with flowers and crystals for memory. “

“Our rabbi spoke powerful words about the rain being a symbol for good luck and happy marriage, our close friends held the tallit up above us and we had a traditional Jewish ceremony. The upstairs layout turned out to be extremely intimate. After the ceremony we were able to get the party started with Yuhan and he kept our guests dancing until 4am!”

On such an incredible day, it’s hard to choose which moments were the most special.  But Monica and Felix had a few favorites!

“To start, one memorable aspect of the day was seeing my fiancé for the first time and seeing his reaction. I remember his back was facing towards me and I walked across the room to greet him, tapping him on his shoulder to turn around. All I heard him say was ‘I hear a swish against the floor, your dress has to be enormous.’ I also remember seeing my finished decorated reception before the guests were able to experience it and it was just heavenly. The lights and the floral were exquisite.

Finally, my walk down the aisle. I remember walking down the aisle in confidence and then when I lifted my eyes and saw my husband- to- be staring back at me I started to choke up. I remember thinking ‘it’s finally here.’ All the months of planning and waiting and everyone is here for us. I broke down for a moment before I pulled it together. “

Now newlyweds, Monica and Felix have this advice to offer other planning couples:

“If I could give one piece of advice it would be to keep calm and try to take in the night as much as possible. It really flies by so quick, and something is bound to go wrong and will. No amount of planning will make anything go by seamlessly, as hard as you will try. It’s important not to stress over things because it’s really a magical day and nothing should ruin your wedding. At the end of the day… LOVE is all that matters.
Felix’s advice would be: ‘Enjoy the moment and DON’T TELL THE BRIDE ANYTHING THAT GOES WRONG!’ I found out days later a lot of small mishaps and scheduling didn’t go as planned that happened that were fixed without my knowledge and I was kept in the dark so I wouldn’t freak out. I am thankful now because it all turned out well, minus an extra meltdown from a bridezilla.”

Diana & Stan’s Elegant, Chic Fall Wedding

Tuesday, January 10th, 2012

For Diana and Stan, living in the same building as teenagers and spending summer mornings on the run was a recipe for romance!

“One summer we spent just getting to know each other and jogging every morning on boardwalk. Shortly after we started dating and were inseparable. We supported each other through school years as we gained our professional licenses in pharmacy and public accounting.“

As they grew up, the friendship between the two began to feel like something more, and on their first date, Diana knew.

“On our first official date we went to watch a movie, My Big Fat Greek Wedding. As we were watching the movie I expressed to Stan that the big “crazy” family (not really crazy I say that with love) was just like mine. I told him my family is loud, fun, and most kind-hearted group of people I have ever met just like the family in the movie. As I watched the couple get married I imagined my wedding day with Stan. I didn’t know where it would be or when, but I knew it would happen someday.”

Five years later, on a date special to Diana, Stan asked her to be his wife.

“Stan made a special Valentine’s Day proposal, which also happens to be my birthday. But what makes it even more special is that my dad also proposed to my mom on Valentine’s Day. I was completely surprised when he popped the question in a limo on our way to dinner at River Café. The evening was very romantic and unforgettable. Leaving my dad speechless and teary and hearing my sister’s excitement was a priceless reaction.“

Deciding October 23, 2011 would be the date, after a three-year engagement, Diana and Stan began to plan their wedding day!

Crystal Plaza had us at hello with their friendly service and warm hospitality. The only obstacle we had to overcome was convincing our parents to have a wedding New Jersey since most guests would be coming from Brooklyn. My dad got a little push from Douglas from D&E Entertainment as he raved about the place and said it was worth the commute. So we brought our parents to Crystal Plaza and they realized what we had been raving about.”

Venue chosen, Diana and Stan focused on the other details of their celebration, enlisting their families to help.

“With a creative family like ours we made it out more than ok. We delegated duties. Our parents were a big help; especially mine for dealing with my daily panic moments. (In retrospect I miss those moments dearly).“

Diana’s father is a musician and managed everything to do with the night’s music.

“My dad as the musician in our family played in major factor in handling the entertainment portion of our wedding. So essentially hiring the band was a no brainer it was of course, D&E Entertainment. We (well ok my dad) worked very closely with them to create a song list that would attract guests of all ages. We also hand picked each female and male singer in the band and created a dream. So yes in addition to D&E Entertainment 9 piece band, we had Oxana from Rasputin, Yana from Chinar, and of course the one and only Michael Botsman. I can’t tell you enough what a phenomenal night it was of fun dance music that kept everyone on the dance floor at all times.

My favorite singer of the night was however, my dad. When he took the microphone and sang songs that he wrote dedicated to us it topped the cake and melted my heart. The lyrics of the songs were very touching and to me one of the most memorable moments.“

While searching for her dress, Diana’s father proved himself to be a maestro of bridal gowns as well!

“Choosing my wedding dress was no easy task since I wanted something special and unusual with a modern twist. I didn’t know what style but I knew I wanted to be comfortable so I can enjoy my wedding night. After hitting up all major bridal stores, one dress caught my attention at a small boutique in Manhasset, New York called The Wedding Salon.

I was walking around the store when a beautiful Marchesa gown caught my eye. Before I even tried it on my dad said, “This is it.” I of course jumped and said, “But papa how do you know? I haven’t even tried it on.” When I walked out of the room his eyes lit up and he said, “We’re done.” My mom and I had our doubts because it didn’t fit the norm of bridal gowns, it didn’t have a train, it didn’t bustle and it wasn’t very poufy. To which my dad’s response was, “But you wanted to be different so make a fashion statement.”

“So after all the fifty dresses I tried on we returned to the store a final time with my sister, mother-in-law and parents, the decision was made. And you guessed we got the Marchesa gown. Looking back I’m very happy with the decision. The shoes were not an easy find, too, but on one humid summer day, I was determined to find perfect wedding shoe. It was when I walked into the Madison Avenue Giuseppe Zanoti boutique, when I found my crystallized blinged out Cinderella-like wedding shoe.”

When it came to her accessories, Diana had only one place in mind – Bridal Styles Boutique! To match her gown, Diana selected an exquisite crystal and pearl headpiece, veil created from a unique combination of classic veiling and French net with crystals scattered and Fench net blusher.

“Choosing the headpiece and veil was an easier task because I didn’t have to go to many stores and search; I went straight to the professionals, Edward & Elaine at Bridal Styles Boutique. They have exquisite taste and style and I knew they would create the look I wanted. Every headpiece that was handed to me was more beautiful than the next. But when I brought my dress it was evident which piece would fit the gown. The pearls and crystals on the headpiece matched the bodice of my dress perfectly. I wish all wedding decisions were as easy as this one.“

For her bridesmaid dresses, Diana enlisted the help of her wonderful in-laws-to-be.

“The girls I chose for my bridal party are not bridesmaids, they are my sister and dearest cousins, who have always looked up to me as their oldest cousin and role model. However,as they grew up I admired them and looked up to them for their amazing personalities and individualities. So I wanted their dress to reflect their beauty. And so the fun and sometimes grueling task began. We went to stores in Manhattan, Long Island, and Brooklyn and I couldn’t find a bridesmaid dress I loved. Until finally one day, my father-in-law drove my mother-in-law and I all over NYC in the sweltering summer heat until finally we found the picture perfect purple Jovani dress.

I think the choosing the right wardrobe for everyone was the most difficult task. Since everyone essentially wanted to look and feel their best.”

Other than their families, while putting together the ingredients for their dream wedding, Diana and Stan relied on the advice of the professionals they’d chosen.

“All the vendors I worked with were truly amazing, cooperative, and friendly. Besides Douglas & Eddie who provided the best entertainment, I had the opportunity to work with the best florist in the community, Tamara from Aramat Events. During our first meeting I didn’t know what type of flowers and colors I wanted to use. I just wanted to incorporate a singe of purple and have a variety of flowers and not just the typical roses and orchids. She is a woman of exclusive taste and I trusted her professional judgment. The chuppah was beautifully decorated and the reception looked radiant with a plethora of crystals and variations of flowers that included roses, orchids, hydrangeas, tulips, lily of the valley and much more. She created a magical evening for us and I will always be grateful to her and her positive emotions. The ceremony that occurred at sunset was truly unforgettable.

Another outstanding vendor and probably one of the most important was the video and photo team, Videomax. They are responsible for capturing every moment of our wedding so we have a memory for the rest of our lives. I commend them for a job well done! They worked extremely professionally and made sure to capture not just the bride and groom and family but all the guests as well. I look forward to watching the video and reliving every moment.“

From start to finish, October 23rd was everything Diana and Stan imagined it to be …and more.

“A lot of brides I speak to say they never remember much from their wedding day. But I have a vivid recollection of every moment. Even as I walked down the aisle I could see all our family and friends surrounding us with beaming smiles. It was at that moment I felt that it was all real and I was having my dream wedding come true.

My parents walking me down the aisle was a bittersweet, proud and very happy moment. I felt their tears of joy and I held their hands tight as I held back my own tears. My amazing makeup and hair artist, Didi Benabo, would have been disappointed if I ruined my makeup. As I hugged my mom and dad, I knew from that moment forward my life was in another man’s hands. And I knew they were proud of the woman I had become and all of my accomplishments.”

“The reception was the most fun and exciting part of the evening. It was great to see all the guests dancing all night and we had a blast with them. After the stressful part of performing our rehearsed first dance we were able to let loose. I was really proud of Stan since dancing was not his strong suit and taking dance lessons took some convincing. I guess we were running on adrenaline because we did our dancing without any mistake and we enjoyed it.“

“Our wedding was special not just because we celebrated the love Stan and I have for each other, but also because everyone who attended our wedding was genuinely happy for us and were there to have a good time. From a young age I always envisioned my dream wedding day but the day I had exceeded by expectations by far and I feel lucky and blessed. And it was an honor to be chosen to be Bride of the Month. I am so happy I got the opportunity to share my story and wish for all future couples a happy wedding day and even happier marriage.“

Now that a few months have passed, and Diana and Stan are officially newlyweds, they have some advice for the newly engaged!

“Enjoy every moment and take it all in. When planning the wedding stay organized and follow your “to do” checklist. I also prepared an itinerary for the day of the wedding. Every single moment was planned out, which even included the times which family members were scheduled for pre-wedding photos. The whole day ran smoothly since everyone followed the plan and we were all able to remain calm and enjoy the day. For all brides out there don’t let anyone tell you something is not right to do, it is your day and do whatever you want. Smile and stay on the dance floor all night. People feed off the positive energy from the bride and groom, so if you have fun so will everyone else. And you will have a successful party.“
