Julie & Igor

Tuesday, October 12th, 2010

One wintry evening during dinner with a mutual friend, Julie and Igor each realized that they had met someone special. When Igor moved to Miami to start five months of hospital clinical training, being apart from Julie became unbearable. Even video chatting every night wasn’t enough! So, Julie headed south. “I decided to pack my bags and fly to Miami. I stayed for a week, and a month later Igor was back in NY. I knew he was the one when those five months felt like years and I realized there is no me without him.”

He carried her engagement ring around in his pocket for three days waiting for just the right moment, one night “during our walk we were discussing our future and how we see ourselves in ten years. What should have been a very long conversation, turned into a short, shocking and amazing experience” recalls Julie.

“‘I see myself with nobody but you, but I want to turn my image into a reality.’ Igor went down on one knee in the middle of the street and asked me to marry him. He really did choose the perfect time and as speechless as I was I found it easy to say YESSS!“

With the help of her mother and sister, Julie and Igor began planning their wedding. “Igor and I wanted a Victorian/Venetian look to our wedding. We chose gold and cream shades of colors with large antique candelabras that complimented the Crystal Plaza in Livingston, NJ….Our wedding day was straight out of a fairy tale, with a beautiful nighttime ceremony that was lit up with candles and thousands of flowers. Our reception décor included exquisite glass candelabras overflowing with crystals and large balls of flowers that were made up of orchids, roses, and hydrangeas….Cuban cigars were rolled throughout the night for our guests to enjoy.”

Then there was Julie’s wedding gown, bridal veil, headpiece, and jewelry. While planning her storybook wedding, Julie knew exactly how she wanted to look and feel.

“I have envisioned myself as a bride ever since I was a little girl….Of course, a beautiful and dramatic ball gown with just enough sparkle that would make me look and feel like a true queen. Bridal Reflections did an amazing job at creating my stunning custom Ines Di Santo wedding dress. Bridal Styles created the most amazing headpiece along with two gorgeous veils that completed my look. My headpiece was truly a work of art. My jewelry was also purchased in Bridal Styles and I heard nothing but compliments throughout the night. Edward and Elaine are amazing at what they do. They worked closely with me and made sure I left happy.”

At last, after a year of planning, Julie and Igor’s wedding day arrived. As Julie had her hair and makeup done by Natasha, slipped into her gorgeous Ines Di Santo gown, and adorned herself with glittering jewels, stunning headpiece, and a dramatic veils, she could hardly wait to meet Igor at the end of the aisle.

“Our wedding was truly a fairy tale. It was everything we both dreamed it would be and much more. Seeing smiles on everyone’s faces just made it that much more special. Our most memorable part of our wedding was standing under the chuppah in front of our family and friends while our rabbi pronounced us husband and wife.”

To all the brides and grooms planning their weddings, Julie and Igor have a little advice!

Julie – “Enjoy every minute of both planning your wedding and the day of because it all goes by so fast.”

Igor – “To all the future grooms out there, always agree with your bride while planning your wedding. A happy wife means a happy life.”

Best wishes, you two! Thank you so much for sharing your wedding with us!

Veiled in Tradition

Wednesday, September 22nd, 2010

We all know that veils are to weddings like icing is to cake, but have you ever wondered where the tradition originated? All of us at Bridal Styles did! After all, our New York boutique is all about bridal accessories – including veiling.

Victorian Bride

Brides have been wearing veils for centuries. In fact, since biblical times! In the story of Rebekah and Issac, Rebekah wore a veil as she married him, revealing her face after the ceremony to indicate their joining as a couple. Fast forward to the Roman Empire, and women on the way to being wed wore brightly colored veils to ward off evil spirits.

It wasn’t until the Crusades that veils found their way to Europe. During that time, a bride’s marriage was often arranged through the father, and the couple often didn’t meet until their wedding day. A medieval bride would wear a veil that concealed her face, not to be revealed until after the ceremony!

Throughout its interpretations and uses across cultures, the veil has symbolized purity and, upon lifting from her face, that the couple are spiritually and physically joined. While this sometimes implied the transference of the bride as property, in Rebekah’s case, by wearing a veil she was indicating she would remain her own person even after marriage.

Today, veils are an enduring symbol of marriage. Modern brides can express themselves with everything from a stylish, vintage-inspired cage veil to a dramatic cathedral length veil trimmed in hand cut lace.

The cage veil is one of our favorite trends in bridal fashion we’ve been seeing in our New York bridal accessory boutique! Inspired by vintage ‘30s and ‘40s fashion, cage veils turn up the volume on glamour while whispering of mystery.

However, don’t let the retro undertones fool you! The cage veil can complement almost any style.

Paired with a scattering of sparkle and a chic chignon, a cage veil is perfect for a bride-to-be with Grace Kelly’s classic taste. A woman yearning for more drama and vintage appeal can up the ante with a fabulous, dazzling, feathered fascinator adorning an elegantly draped cage veil.

A cage veil is perfect for a woman with shorter hair, too! Her sassy short ‘do couldn’t be more perfect when layered with a bewitching cage veil and spectacular hair accessories.

Dreaming of gliding down the aisle feeling as captivating as a starlet like Jean Harlow or Lauren Bacall and as alluring as a siren?

The cage veil is for you!
