Frances and Larry’s Fabulous, Vintage Wedding

Monday, March 3rd, 2014

Thanks to an introduction from Larry’s best friend, Frances and her handsome sweetie’s love story began! Our gorgeous bride knew she’d met her match almost from the moment they met for one very important reason. From Frances:

“He always made me feel like the only girl in the room, and continues to do so.”

A romantic, Larry proposed in a heart-stopping, unforgettable way:

“After a horse and carriage ride in Central Park, he got down on one knee! He’d even arranged for a photographer to hide and capture the magical moment.”

For these two lovebirds, the next 11 months were spent planning the wedding of their dreams. In fact, Frances says that Larry was her biggest helper and that she couldn’t have done it without him! Still, even with her groom by her side, organizing their spectacular, antique-inspired, red-hued celebration at New Jersey’s Pleasantdale Chateau was no easy task. From Frances:

“It was extremely stressful! It is a lot more to take on than anyone ever imagines it will be. But can be very rewarding in the end when your vision comes to life.

I was going for a very dramatic, unconventional wedding and look. I wanted lots of drama, deep reds and dripping candles with antique silver fixtures. I wanted all antique details. I love Art Deco jewelry! Hence my beautiful antique set engagement ring.

We both have a thing for skulls, so our custom cake topper was the perfect touch to add a piece of who we are without being too over the top. Also having a red reception is not typical, most brides opt for white, I am more of a red kind of gal. We wanted everything highly stylized, from all of the stationery to the decor to each and every vendor we had. Nothing was understated or simple.

Thanks to my vendors, it all came to life on my wedding day. Aramat Events did all of my decor, they are the best. Everything looked exactly the way I wanted it to and I owe that to them. Fusion Lighting brought my vision of projecting roses all throughout my wedding, it was one of the most beautiful and memorable aspects of my entire wedding. Finally, Matthew Sowa captured it all. He is a true artist, rather than just your average wedding photographer, and he did a phenomenal job.“

Frances’s unique vision, love for vintage jewelry, and penchant for glamour also influenced her wedding day look. After choosing a dramatic, mermaid Kenneth Pool wedding gown with a peek-a-boo tulle skirt and dazzling belt, she visited us to put the finishing touches on her bridal ensemble, which included a custom designed 1920s-inspired comb, a custom-made lace edged veil and fabulous jewelry.
From Frances:

“Bridal Styles has the largest selection of gorgeous jeweled accessories out there. They helped me sparkle and completed my dream look with all of the Art Deco pieces that I love.”

After waiting almost a year for the day to arrive, our beautiful bride-to-be focused on enjoying the moment.

“I tried my best not to let anything get me flustered, I stayed calm throughout the entire morning and process of getting ready (some champagne is necessary). It really helped to start the day calm and not let the nerves and anxiety get to you, I wanted to take in and enjoy the day as much as a bride possibly can.”

On such an incredible day, Frances says one moment stands out among the rest:

“The ceremony, I love, love, loved everything about our magical wedding ceremony.”

Now husband and wife, Larry and Frances have this advice for other planning brides and grooms:

“Having meltdowns and freaking out is very very normal…we ALL go through it. Try on as many dresses as you possibly can before purchasing one, its the only way you will truly see what looks right on you and what you feel the most beautiful in. And also try to walk around your wedding and notice all of the things you worked so hard in preparing for, the day goes by quickly and you will wish you took more time to look at everything. Oh and take the time to take lots of photos with your very closest loved ones and family, you will wish you had more!”

Elizabeth and Billy’s 1920’s Inspired Wedding

Tuesday, February 4th, 2014

Summer’s end brought an unexpected new beginning for Bridal Styles bride Elizabeth:

“Billy and I met at the Boardy Barn, a bar in Hampton Bays, at the end of the summer in 2010. I was there celebrating a friend’s birthday and he was working as a bouncer. The first thing I noticed about him was the tattoo on his forearm. I initiated conversation with him about it and we talked for a while (even though he wasn’t supposed to). I gave him my number and we talked for a few weeks on the phone. About a month after we met, I went on a job interview in the city and they hired me on the spot. I was so happy and excited, and for some reason the first person I wanted to tell was him. We made plans to hang out and have been together ever since.”

Thanks in part to her German Shepherd, Elizabeth began to realize she’d found The One. From Elizabeth:

“There wasn’t one specific time, but rather a few situations that made me realize Billy was someone I could spend the rest of my life with. One of them was on one of our first dates. I have a German Shepherd named Luca who has been my pride and joy since the day I got her almost 8 years ago. I took her to Billy’s house to introduce them, and then he took me to a restaurant for dinner. When we came back, she had destroyed his kitchen…ripped down the blinds off his window and tore them up all over the room. I was angry and mortified, but he just laughed and said it was no big deal. He fell in love with her despite her destructive tendencies and now they’re like two peas in a pod. She absolutely ADORES him. “

In addition to capturing Elizabeth’s heart, Billy’s sense of fun played a part in taking the leap and asking our beautiful bride for her hand:

“In May 2012, we made plans to go skydiving. It was my second time, but his first, and he was more nervous than I expected. He jumped first, then I did, and as we parachuted down and landed on the ground he was on one knee and proposed. We then went to Atlantic City and spent the weekend celebrating.”

After choosing September 14, 2013 as their date, with the help of her mom, four sisters, and best friend, Sam, Elizabeth and Billy spent the next year and a half planning their 1920s Art Deco-inspired celebration.

From Elizabeth:

“Right away I delved into planning, spending lot of time on wedding websites that offered reviews from real brides. The suggestions and personal experiences of other brides like me greatly helped me choose my vendors.

We decided the ceremony would be at Old First Presbyterian Church in Huntington, NY, where I attended Sunday school and was confirmed. Two of my sisters were married there as well. It was important to us that we see each other for the first time at the ceremony. Though originally we did not intend to get married in a church, it ended up being a very special and personal moment for us and my family.

The reception was at The Woodlands in Woodbury, NY. The mansion was built in the 1920s and the ground eventually became a golf course. The mansion itself is very well maintained and still holds a prohibition-era charm, including the many interior elements that were imported from all over the world. It fit perfectly into our vision and 1920s theme.

Billy and I made the menus, table cards and signs by ourselves, and we really put a lot of work into them. We created them to fit in with our 1920s theme, using Art Deco fonts, fan accents and ostrich feathers. Also, Billy is Irish and loves his heritage, so, as guests arrived at our reception, we had a bagpiper play at the entrance. The bagpiper was special and a lot of people had never seen one at a wedding before. He also played the entrance song when we came into the reception and were introduced as husband and wife.”

While searching for her dress, after saying ‘yes’ Elizabeth followed her heart and made a switch:

“I had originally wanted a Pnina Tornai, but also had my eye on an Amalia Carrara by Eve of Milady dress I had seen at another store. Kleinfeld didn’t have the Amalia Carrara style, but I ended up choosing a mermaid-style Pnina Tornai. That night, I had qualms about my choice and kept thinking about the other dress. I was watching TV and ended up actually seeing THE DRESS on Say Yes to the Dress, and knew I had to have it. I called Kleinfeld the next day to change the order. When I tried it on again, it was like a dream…it just felt right. It was everything I wanted…fitted in the top and flared at the bottom in a mermaid style, a strapless sweetheart neckline, a fun, glamorous bottom with a nice train, and a little bit of bling on the neckline and down the back of the zipper.”

Next, armed with a photo of her gown, Elizabeth came to visit us at Bridal Styles Boutique!

“When I arrived at Bridal Styles, I showed a picture to the staff members so they could help me figure out what would perfectly accent the dress. We decided on a raw-edged cathedral veil for the ceremony, and a two-tiered raw-edged fingertip length veil for the reception. I chose a stunning Swarovski crystal spray headpiece to add some glamour to the look. I wanted the headpiece to be the focus, so a simple Swarovski crystal bracelet and earrings finished off the look. It was a fantastic experience and I’m glad I drove the hour and a half to Brooklyn!”

When the day arrived, it went by in an amazing, unforgettable blur. From Elizabeth:

“The day was nonstop from 6:45am. Hair and makeup took a long time for the 6 people we had, and before we knew it we were rushing to get dressed, take quick pictures and load into the limos to head to the church. It was a little overwhelming at first…I was nervous, happy, excited, scared all at the same time. There were so many emotions that I couldn’t cry, even though I felt like it. Standing before the closed doorway of the church with my dad, all I could think was “this is really happening…right now…after so long of waiting and preparing, the moment is here.”

I walked down the aisle to a song we listened to together often, and, seeing Billy’s face as I approached the altar was priceless. It was difficult to take it all in but I know we both tried. The ceremony was simple and beautiful. We wrote our own vows, and it was touching to hear what we had to say to each other knowing that, from that moment on, we would officially be spending the rest of our lives together. It felt so nice to have our closest friends and family present for our special day, and seeing them there, emotional and offering us congratulations and best wishes was one of the most meaningful aspects.

Right before the reception, we had a family friend bring our two dogs to the venue so we could take pictures with them. I ordered special collars for them, and the girl wore a flower collar and the boy wore a bow tie collar. They looked so adorable and were so happy to see us. It was important for us to include them in our special day since they are such a big part of our lives.”

From among a thousand wonderful wedding day moments, for Elizabeth and Billy both, one in particular stands out:

“The moment I walked down the aisle to him is one that we’ll never forget. A year and a half is a long time to plan one day, and even though it came quickly, it did feel like we had been waiting for that moment forever. It felt like we were seeing each other for the first time again.“

Now blissful newlyweds, Elizabeth and Billy have this advice for other planning couples:

“Take your time in choosing every aspect. Don’t let other people talk you into making decisions you don’t feel right about. Don’t put yourself in debt for your wedding…either take the time to save the money you need or downsize on certain aspects that aren’t as important to you. Most of all, make sure you take a step back and try to take it all in because it’s over in a flash.”

Senada and Agron’s Chic Vegas Wedding Shoot

Tuesday, January 14th, 2014

When a member of the bridal community gets married, it’s a very big deal!  For years lovely Senada, a gifted hairstylist and beautiful person both inside and out,  has made many of our brides look gorgeous and feel relaxed and calm. So, when we were able to do the same for Senada on her wedding day, we were thrilled and honored.

Growing up in Montenegro, Senada and Agron’s families were close so it was only natural that the two became friends. It wasn’t until they both moved to the US that their friendship became something much more. From Senada:

“Our parents, who both owned restaurants back home and were very good friends. We were neighbors and we even went to the same school. When we moved to the US, we kept in touch.” But before long, their friendship grew into love, thanks to their mutual connection to  weddings!

“For the past 15 years, my husband has worked for the city of New York (Mayor’s Office & NYC MEDIA), but his side job is working with AlbaPro, doing video production. Since I do many of the brides in the Albanian community and most of them use AlbaPro for their beautiful work, we ended up at many of the weddings together. After our work was done at the weddings, we’d stay and talk, which, since we both enjoyed it so much, evolved into seeing each other.”

Clearly, they were a couple destined for each other! And, as they discovered, you can’t run away from destiny! From Senada:

“When on my 35th birthday, Agron proposed in front of my friends and family, it was a big, wonderful surprise. It was so emotional! I felt as if life with my best friend finally started.”

Both being very creative people, in lieu of a big wedding, the two decided to travel to Las Vegas for an artistic wedding photo shoot. Enlisting the help of her two sisters and lovely daughter, Diana, Senada set about planning an unforgettable experience for two!

Since no wedding photo is complete without a glowing bride wearing a gorgeous gown and fabulous accessories, Senada went shopping:

“I knew I wanted a mermaid gown with clean, simple design, and ended up with two! The first was by Matthew Christopher, and the second, which I wore in the casino shots, was custom made. Of course when you have a simple dress, you have to add some fabulous bling to it. Of course I went to Bridal Styles for my accessories, a beautiful statement necklace that completed my look, and a brooch could be worn in my hair as a comb.”

Six months later, after saying “I do” at City Hall and in a religious ceremony, Senada and Agron jetted out west.

“We took pictures in The National Park in the desert and also on the Red Rock Canyon. Because of the heat, we had to take pictures after sunset. It was an amazing experience. After we were finished with the pictures outside, we went to the Wynn Hotel in Las Vegas. We changed our outfits and took pictures inside a casino.

It was so much fun working with the people I love most, and having my husband there with me made everything so special. Everyone worked so hard to make the trip incredible. My friend, Lumi worked her magic as a make-up artist, and, of course, AlbaPro did a wonderful job. Traveling around and getting to experience new places was such a fantastic experience!”

Now back in New York as husband and wife, Senada and Agron have this advice for those soon to be wed:

“My advice to all of upcoming brides is to make sure you choose the right person to spend forever with. Having someone who you can trust , love and respect is the best gift. Finding your best friend in your soul mate is also something that you wouldn’t trade for the world.

Last but not least, you can never go wrong with Bridal Styles Boutique and of course you have to show off your wonderful look with the amazing photographers of AlbaPro!”
