From Lauren:

“The experience that I had at your boutique was one of a kind. My headpiece was stunning and I received so many heartfelt compliments through the night. I don’t think any bride truly has a “true” bridal experience unless they get their headpiece and veil from you guys.”

Wow! Thank you for your kind words and huge compliment, Lauren. It is our hope that any bride who visits us has a wonderful experience. We’re delighted you loved visiting us and are so thrilled with your custom CZ headpiece and veil. You looked absolutely stunning! Best wishes to you both.

LeShonda and Sherrod’s Elegant, Vintage Glam Wedding

Thursday, September 10th, 2015

Cupid’s arrow will find you wherever you are, and, as lovely Bridal Styles bride LeShonda discovered, that little romance-loving cherub is also patient! Because when she first met her future husband, meeting someone new was far from her mind.

Explains LeShonda, “I met my husband at a nightclub three years ago in Atlanta. He saw me with my friends and pulled one of them to the side to introduce us. My friend said, ‘Hey, this guy really wants to meet you.’ So I rolled my eyes and said ‘I’m good.’ She kind of pressured me to meet him so I allowed her to introduce us. We smiled at each other and at the same time said, ‘You have a nice smile!’ That was it. That was the extent of our conversation. I was in another relationship at the time so we didn’t exchange numbers or anything. Our paths crossed a year later and this time I was single. We arranged a date at the gym and had so much fun spending time together that we went to dinner afterwards, and then to get ice cream. The rest is history.“

When it came time to pop the question, Sherrod surprised his soon-to-be bride, but not in the way you’d think!

“We were long distance at the time so he was planning to come in town for the weekend for a ‘banquet.’ My husband is a football player so when he told me he had a banquet to go to, it was kind of sketchy but also believable.

He had bought a semi-formal dress for me to wear and told me he was going to pick me up at 8:00 for the banquet. He arrived to my place in a nice suit, with a driver who was also dressed up. We ended up at Ruth’s Chris restaurant in downtown Atlanta, where he told me that we weren’t going to a banquet after all, but that he just wanted to show me a nice time for the weekend.

After dinner, we went outside and there was a horse and carriage waiting to chauffeur us around downtown. Following the horse and carriage ride, we ended up at Sky View which is like a big Ferris Wheel attraction in Atlanta. We did Sky View on VIP status and the driver picked us up took us to the St. Regis Hotel.
When I opened the door to the room, he had rose petals on the floor, and fondue, champagne and other treats on the table.

You would think he was about to propose right? Wrong! He allowed me to think that he just wanted to have a romantic weekend. The next morning over breakfast in our room, he walked me to the seat at the table he wanted me to sit at. There was a card from the hotel with my name on it. I asked him, ‘What is this? It’s from the hotel.’ He said he didn’t know and to open it. On the inside of the card was the phrase, ‘Will you marry me?’ I looked over and he was down on one knee.”

With the help of their wedding planner, Eliana of EllyB Events, LeShonda and Sherrod began making arrangements for their June wedding at the Biltmore Ballrooms in Atlanta.

Their wedding theme was vintage glam, and, when it came to her bridal look, LeShonda knew that she wanted to be elegant and timeless. Other than that, she didn’t have a perfect dress in mind. Explains LeShonda, “I had never previously thought about my wedding day, so I didn’t have a Pinterest board of ideas or anything. I had an easy time picking out my wedding dress.

A month after the engagement, his sister asked if I wanted to go look at wedding dresses. The plan was to go casually look, and I ended up finding the dress! My dress was a custom couture mermaid style gown with a beaded bodice from Winnie Couture. I wanted an elegant look with some bling. The train of my dress was unique and I knew would have an impact walking down the aisle.”

While finding The Dress was a breeze, the hardest part for LeShonda was figuring out her wedding look’s finishing touches. Thankfully, she stumbled across Bridal Styles Boutique on Instagram!

“The toughest decision for my wedding day look was probably the makeup, hair, and headpiece! My wedding planner recommended my makeup artist Mimi Johnson and hair stylist Sharonda Mack and both were great! I knew for my hair that I wanted a sleek updo, and had originally purchased a princess tiara to go with my ceremony dress. But after going to my hair consultation, I wasn’t satisfied with how my hair looked with the crown.

About three to four weeks before my wedding, I came across the Bridal Styles Boutique Instagram page and found the perfect headpiece to go with my gown! Thankfully, you had the piece available and were able to ship it to me right away. I ended up using the tiara for my reception dress and the custom Bridal Styles Boutique headpiece and earrings with my ceremony dress. They were a huge hit!”

Turns out Sherrod isn’t the only one with a flair for surprises. On their wedding day, LeShonda had one in store for all their guests. Since The Biltmore Hotel has two ballrooms, she was able to arrange for a big reveal.

“One of the surprises I wanted to have for my guests was to have the ceremony and dinner in the bigger ballroom, and the dancing (and DJ) in the other. The guests didn’t know we were switching rooms until after dinner. I wanted the ‘surprise’ ballroom to be decorated like a club, complete with blue uplighting. Our cake was displayed and lit up in the second ballroom, along with a dessert table, custom couches for the guests to sit on, and of course the dance floor in the middle. It turned out great.”

Their wowed guests had another unexpected experience in store…LeShonda and Sherrod’s first dance! Says LeShonda, “We hired instructors with International Dance Studios in Atlanta to teach us how to do a slow swing dance. We worked on that choreography for a few months. We made up our own choreography to a popular, trendy hip hop song for a surprise dance at the end.”

Amidst all the excitement and celebration, the moment that stands out the most for these head-over-heels-in-love newlyweds took place during their wedding ceremony.

“We wrote our own vows to share, and my husband was crying as soon as the song came on for me to walk down the aisle. I caught a glimpse of him during the walk down and tears were running down his face, so I had to look around at the guests to prevent myself from tearing up (had to protect the makeup).

Of course, I started crying halfway into reading my vows. I kept it together enough to make it through, though. Now we see these memes going around social media of those moments when we cried during our ceremony. It’s kinda gone viral but it was a beautiful thing. We were both so emotional and felt like the only two people in the room standing at the altar. I’m so thankful for my husband and I’m proud to say you could feel the genuine love at our wedding.“

Now husband and wife, LeShonda and Sherrod have the following sound advice for the newly engaged:

“My advice to brides-to-be would be to hire a wedding planner for the month prior. I feel that planners really come in handy for the month leading up to the wedding, but not a whole year before your big day. You really can do your own research, contact vendors, and handle most of the requirements. Save yourself some money and hire a wedding day coordinator or a planner just for the month prior.

Also, it’s really tough to stay on budget. Establish your budget ahead of time with your partner and then multiply that number by two or three…and that is more realistic of the dollar amount you’ll be paying for your wedding. At least that’s what we found out. Weddings are extremely expensive and can go from zero to 100 real quick if you’re not careful! Don’t be afraid to delegate some of the responsibilities to your man. Make your lists and decide what you are comfortable with him doing and ask him to do those things.

My husband’s advice to the men would probably be to just make sure you are making the planning process an enjoyable experience for your partner. Don’t always talk about the money and offer to help!”

If you’re planning an Atlanta wedding, LeShonda has some wonderful things to say about her vendors:

My hair stylist Sharonda did a wonderful job and was so sweet. On the day of the wedding, she ended up turning my low bun into a heart shape. It wasn’t planned! Some of my guests actually commented on how it was so cool that my hair was shaped like a heart! She stayed with me throughout the day and quickly changed my hair into a high bun (my signature look) for the reception.

Our photographer, Cathi Milanes of Milanes Photography, is amazing. She did our engagement shoot and my boudoir shoot as well. virtual officex She has such a knack for wedding photography and a creative mind. She captured our wedding day in the most beautiful way imaginable.

We also had great videographers in Torrey and Horace from Focal Blu. They shot our engagement shoot sneak peek and tell a story with each wedding film. I am looking forward to seeing the final product! We’ll be sure to share some video footage on YouTube.”
