Patrice & Elijah’s Red Carpet Wedding

Tuesday, April 19th, 2011

Fresh off the broadway national tour of “Dreamgirls”,  playing Effie White (the same role made famous by Jennifer Hudson), Patrice is a Dreamgirl on stage and walking down the aisle.

She’s also her new husband Elijah’s dream come true…When Patrice responded to an ad on Craigslist for a band’s background vocalist, she had no idea the man who placed the listing would someday be her husband!

Right away she knew had found someone special. “I knew Elijah was different from anyone else I had ever met as soon as we started dating. I often say that I don’t even know where he came from. I used to tease him and say he had a book of answers and ‘things to say to your girlfriend’ because he always says the most perfect thing to cheer me up or make me feel better. He’s definitely one of a kind and I am glad he’s mine!”

Though it was an everyday turned extraordinary night in New York City that Patrice realized she had found the one. “Elijah picked me up when I finished performing at a benefit concert to give me a ride home. We rode past Central Park and I told him that I had never been to Central Park and I had always wanted to go. He pulled the car over, parked, and we walked into the park. I was floored when he walked up to the carriage driver and asked for a ride around the park. During the ride, I looked at him with a smile and thought to myself, “Life couldn’t be any better than this!”

Later, Patrice found herself thrilled and moved by another of Elijah’s surprise romantic gestures!
“While my show Dreamgirls was performing in LA, we had planned for Elijah to come out to visit with me months before so it was no surprise that he was there. The day we got there he proposed. We got in the car without a GPS and I wondered how in the world Elijah knew where to go. We drove in the rain in LA traffic to Santa Monica. Elijah very annoyed by the traffic and the rain. I was like “what’s the big deal?” Little did I know he’d planned on proposing outside at the Santa Monica Pier at sunset. So much for that! However, when we got there he’d made reservations at a beautiful Japanese restaurant (our favorite food). Our table was around an open pit fire. We had wonderful conversation about life and our future as a married couple but I just kept changing the subject. I didn’t know he was talking about right NOW! He eventually got the words out and I cried and cried and cried! I cried so much I forgot to say yes. Couldn’t have been more perfect!”

Happily engaged, Patrice and Elijah set Friday, March 25, 2011 as their date and began planning their wedding. Since Patrice was on a national tour of Dreamgirls, during their 13-month engagement, Elijah did more than the average groom! He even chose the most important thing, their venue: Liberty House in Jersey City, NJ, inside Liberty State Park.

Though Patrice was on the road, she and Elijah worked together to plan a unique wedding that reflected who they were.

“We based our wedding on both of our careers. Our save the dates were like movie posters, our invitations were like a ticket, our wedding programs a Broadway Playbill. During cocktail hour there was a red carpet and step and repeat wall for red carpet interviews. The escort cards were like backstage passes that said each guest was seated with a prominent couple in the entertainment industry like Oprah and Stedman, Will and Jada, Barack and Michelle, and Heidi Klum and Seal.”

So, what does a Dreamgirl wear on her red carpet wedding day?

“I was in Beverly Hills with Dreamgirls when my mother came to visit. We were in a store for 30 minutes and I had my dress! Designed by Alfred Angelo, the dress was made of Silk Satin, decorated with Swarovski crystals, had a chapel train and a strapless, sweetheart bodice….My favorite part of my entire wardrobe was my headpiece. My veil was diamond white and cathedral length and it fit perfectly with my custom made headpiece. Both were created at the fabulous Bridal Style’s boutique in Brooklyn, NY. My headpiece was the single thing I was most excited about when it came to my wardrobe — an asymmetrical face framer made with Swarovksi crystals. It was unique and is being talked about like crazy! It made that statement that I wanted….FIERCE! “

When March 25 finally arrived, Patrice and her seven bridesmaids had a blast getting ready for their walk down the aisle, listening to music and enjoying mimosas. But the real pre-wedding fun turned out to be in the lobby!

“That weekend the Argentinean Soccer Team was also staying in the hotel. They brought in tons of paparazzi and press to photograph and interview them as they arrived at the hotel and whenever they got out of the elevator. So when my bridesmaids and I went down to get in our limo we walked into a lobby that was completely loaded with photographers and reporters. They began to flash their cameras like crazy. Well, I took full advantage of it! My girls and I smiled and waved like celebrities arriving on the red carpet and acted like they were all there for us! It was so funny!“

From that impromptu photoshoot on, Patrice and Elijiah’s wedding was the party they had planned and more!

“It was a Friday night PARTY! It started at 7pm and we partied until 1am. My husband and I also stopped our first slow dance and did a comedic and entertaining dance performance to Michael Jackson’s ‘The Way You Make Me Feel.’ I also surprised my groom by singing to him. I sang ‘I Love You, I Do’ from the Dreamgirls motion picture.”

When we asked Patrice and Elijah to share their most memorable moments, they had this to say:

Patrice: My most memorable moment was walking down the aisle to Elijah. The look on his face was unforgettable. During the whole planning process I just knew I’d be crying and would ruin those pictures of me walking down the aisle. But I was so happy! I smiled so much that night my cheeks were hurting.

Also, my flower girl is 2 years old and she was the life of the party. When she walked down the aisle she covered her face as if she were saying, ”No pictures, please!” However, at the reception she danced front and center on the dance floor all night.

Elijah: I think we were very into the moment. Everything else during the entire day flew by. However, while we were saying our own vows to each other we both listened and valued every part of that moment.

Now that they’re newlyweds instead of in the midst of trying to plan a wedding while one of them was on tour, Patrice and Elijah had this advice for planning couples:

Patrice: Don’t sweat the small stuff. It’s all small stuff! Make sure you get a videographer because it will FLY by like crazy!

Elijah: Be happy and enjoy every moment!

Pearls Please!

Wednesday, April 13th, 2011

Grace Kelly, an icon of timeless style, is known for her classic strand of pearls. Even on her wedding day, Princess Grace wasn’t without her elegant gems. Her wedding veil was appliquéd with lace lovebirds and thousands of seed pearls!

Known as “The Queen of Gems,” it’s no coincidence that a royal bride like Grace Kelly would adorn herself with pearls. Queen Elizabeth’s gown had 10,000 miniature pearls on the bodice alone, and on her wedding day she wore two pearl necklaces given to her by her parents. As a wedding gift, Queen Elizabeth gave Princess Diana the Lovers Knot Tiara, glittering with diamonds and 38 pearl drops, and on Diana’s wedding day she wore a gown with a 25-foot train embroidered with 10,000 pearls.

Anna & Pietro’s Westmount Country Club Wedding

Tuesday, March 29th, 2011

April 16, 2008 is a day that both Anna and her new husband Pietro will always remember. It was when everything changed!

They had known each other through mutual friends, but it was while at a friend’s barbeque they found themselves sitting together talking about life when Pietro asked Anna out to dinner.

The rest, as they say, is history!

Two years later in February, Anna was headed to the gym. Meanwhile, Pietro had arrived at their home from work to get everything set for the special night in which he planned to propose.

However, Anna found herself stuck in traffic, missed her gym class, and headed home. “I walked into a kitchen and saw a bouquet of beautiful red roses. I thought they were for our second year anniversary but then he pulled a little black box and said ‘I have something else for you!’”

When she opened the box, for a moment Anna was too shocked and excited to speak! But by the time Pietro asked for her hand, she recovered enough to say ‘yes.’

Since they wanted to start a family right away, Anna and Pietro decided to wed by the end of the year, choosing November 13, 2010 for their date.

As a bridal coordinator with her own wedding planning and coordinating company, A Touch Of Posh, Anna had taken care of many brides and their weddings! So she knew exactly what she wanted to do and the top vendors to choose. It wasn’t long before she and Pietro had chosen Sacred Heart of Jesus in Bayside and Westmount Country Club for their ceremony and reception, along with all the professionals that would help make their dream wedding come true.

Next on her list were her wedding dress and bridesmaid dresses!

“I always wanted to have a big, beautiful wedding. I knew exactly what dress I was going wear and the dresses I envisioned my brides in. My dress was by Maggie Sottero ‘Sabelle’ custom encrusted with Swarovski crystals, and my bridesmaids wore dresses by Bill Levkoff. My favorite color is Burgundy/wine, which is prefect for Fall, so it became the color theme of my wedding.”

Bridal gown chosen, Anna began to search for her bridal accessories. “I wanted to get a unique headpiece and vintage looking accessories, but couldn’t find the one I LOVED, until a friend suggested that I go to Bridal Styles Boutique. Once there, I knew it was the place to find one of a kind headpieces and accessories. There were so many headpieces my eyes were all over the store. With all that amazing stuff I was able to find a headpiece I LOVED and vintage style accessories – just what I was looking for. My accessories made me look different, unique! I couldn’t wait to wear them!”

To Anna and Pietro, the sunny skies and 65 degree weather that greeted them and their 300 guests on their wedding day was just icing on the cake. It meant so much to “celebrate the beginning of our lives together with friends and family – it was very special to us! We put our hearts into making the wedding of our dreams!”

Even among all those great memories, for Anna and Pietro some will always remain vivid. “Walking down the aisle and seeing the man I love standing by the aisle waiting to spend the rest of his life with me was the most memorable part of my wedding. The first dance was my husbands, besides the surprise grooms cake. I got him a 3D deer cake since he’s a big hunter!”

Now newlyweds, Anna and Pietro have the following advice for engaged couples planning their weddings:

“Have the wedding of your dreams! Plan it the way you always envisioned it to be, because it is the most memorable day of your life! There are so many great vendors that would work with you and your budget, just remember to choose them carefully. We had the best experience with all the vendors we chose! It is very important to work with professional people who care about your day! Remember it’s your big day and you should be treated like a princess, have fun planning your wedding and the most important don’t get too stressed out! Enjoy every minute of your wedding day, because it goes too quick! Hire a wedding coordinator to do all the work for you the day of your wedding so you and your bridal party can enjoy the best day of your life!”

Thanks so much, Anna and Pietro, for sharing your images and day with us, and best wishes!

Uniquely Traditional Bridal Style

Thursday, March 17th, 2011

Creating a traditional wedding day look doesn’t mean a bride has to compromise her own style sensibilities!

Coco Chanel once said, “Fashion fades, only style remains the same.”

Do you envision celebrating your wedding in an elegant, gracious venue, wearing a classic gown and beautiful headpiece, but are not sure how to stay true to your personality?

Remember, It doesn’t always take a full ball gown and regal crown to achieve traditional style (although that’s a stunning look). Classic is all in the details! Using some pieces from our new 2011 Spring/Summer bridal accessory collection, we created style boards to show you a few different traditional brides!

Jeannette and Steven’s New Years Eve Wedding

Tuesday, March 8th, 2011

You never know when you are going meet the person you’re going to spend the rest of your life with!

On a Thursday summer night in Staten Island, Jeannette and Steven happened to be at Angelina’s Restaurant. When they met, sparks flew! Says Jeannette, “Steven was charming and funny – we hit it off right from the start!“

It was love at first sight, and seven months later on Christmas Day, Steven proposed during breakfast. “It was an amazing surprise and the best Christmas gift I’ll ever get!”

The holidays are Jeannette’s favorite time of year, so they began to plan for a winter wedding and selected the Addison Park in Aberdeen, NJ for their reception. “It’s the most beautiful classy, tasteful place. The decor had our names written all over it, from the chandeliers to the white Christmas trees. Everything was perfect for us!”

All the festive décor at the Addison Park got Jeannette and Steven thinking, why not begin their marriage and ring in the New Year together?

Date and place decided, Jeannette was ready to shop for her bridal gown. “Now that we decided on New Year’s Eve, it was all about BLING! For the dress, I wanted to be bold couture and different. I went to Ct Couture Bridal and consulted with Nelly, my dressmaker. Together, we designed my dream dress.”

December 31, 2010 was everything Jeannette and Steven dreamed of.

“I envisioned myself glowing from the inside out: my dress, headpiece and our wedding day was all I dreamed of and more! I sparkled from head to toe, and my day was beautiful from the moment I woke up to the very last dance. The most special part of the day was our ceremony at Our Lady Star Of The Sea church. Walking down the aisle of a church packed with friends family and acquaintances as they applauded and gasped when I Steve and I saw each other for the first time on our special day. It was surreal and something I’ll never forget!”
