She’s a guidance counselor. He’s the comptroller. And when their eyes met in the halls of Xaverian High, the earth moved. In fact, we’d say that Angela and Walter’s high school romance is one for the books!
“I knew Walter was “the one” after our very first date. The attraction was instant. It was more than physical, it was emotional and spiritual. It was an overwhelming feeling, but I embraced it. He gave me butterflies in my stomach whenever I saw him. That feeling continues today.”
Six months later, on the same spot where they shared their first date, Walter got down on one knee:
“After an amazing evening of “Jersey Boys” and an exquisite dinner at Sparks Steakhouse, we drove to Dumbo where we had gone our first date. It was a cold day in January, but he insisted on parking the car and taking a stroll. We reminisced about our first date just six months ago and how much fun we’ve been having. The next thing I knew, Walter was on one knee with the most gorgeous emerald diamond engagement ring that I had ever seen! The backdrop was perfect; just he and I, the moonlight and the Brooklyn Bridge. It was the most magical night I had ever experienced.”
They set a date for August 15, 2013. With a year and a half to plan, Angela didn’t start right away, but when she did, her mom and sister were a huge help.
“I wasted little time to begin planning the grand event that I waited my entire life for, and my mom and sister were amazing throughout the entire planning process. Their feedback, input and patience were invaluable.
Venue and church were very important to me so I tackled those first, and booked the Basilica of Regina Pacis in Brooklyn and the Park Savoy Estate for our reception. Next, cinematographer, photographer and band. Once all of those aspects of the wedding were in place, I was RELIEVED! Approximately one year before the big day, I focused on flowers, cake, bridal party, and of course MY GOWN and accessories! I also looked into the “extras” that would personalize my event and surely make it one to remember.”
With the details taken care of, Angela’s search for The Dress was on!
“Lux and bling were the name of the game!! I wanted old world, vintage glamour with a lux and modern twist. My venue was the perfect backdrop to achieve just that. The Park Savoy is an old world estate with such fine attention to detail. The ballroom was adorned with three massive, Baccarat crystal chandeliers, which set the tone for my lux event. Cream, blush and lavender was the color scheme, and, of course, lots of sparkle. I never envisioned myself as a “traditional bride.” I wanted a vintage feel with a modern twist. My jaw dropping Allure gown was the epitome of my vision. I was draped in lux satin and Swarovski crystals.”
After saying yes to the dress, Angela visited Bridal Styles Boutique to find fabulous accessories to finish her chic, glam bridal look:
“What better way to compliment my gown but with an equally gorgeous, custom-made Swarovski headpiece with a bird cage blusher. To say it was exquisite would be an understatement!”
When her wedding day arrived, it was everything everyone told her not to expect… Perfection!
“Being such a perfectionist, everyone would tell me, “Angela, things are not going to be perfect, just enjoy the day.” I can say with 100% confidence that they were all wrong! My day was PERFECT. Seamless!! Not one thing out of place, nothing went wrong! Mother Nature could not have gifted me a more perfect day filled with blue skies and sunshine. The day was busting with excitement, love and joy. It truly was the BEST DAY OF MY ENTIRE LIFE.
To enhance the magical feel of our day, we incorporated human statues, or “living art.” Upon arrival our guests were greeted by this” living art” who handed each of our guests a scroll with “The power of love” printed on one side and a fortune on the other. The living art took the shape of an urn with lavender and blush flowers to carry out the color scheme of the event. In trying to make my event as unique and unforgettable as possible, everything from the cake, to the table numbers to the escort cards were all custom made. Of course, in cream, blush, lavender and lots of BLING!”
Of all the wonderful memories of that flawless day, for Angela and Walter, one moment stands out from the rest:
“The most memorable part of the wedding had to be our grand entrance. We came in to the most fitting song “La Bella Vita” by DJ Antoine. The music, the crowd and all the love that was felt in that moment was surreal. I wish I could relive that moment in time over and over again.”
Our happy newlyweds have this advice for the newly engaged:
“Enjoy every second of their special day. It goes by so quick, and before you know, it is a distant memory. Take the time to taste everything, look around, and soak it all in, dance until your feet are blistered! And get all your pictures done before cocktail hour!”
Thank you for sharing your day with us, and best wishes!
